Understanding the Condition

What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a chronic condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb (the endometrium) grows in other parts of the body, most commonly on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and the lining of the pelvis.

As these cells respond to your monthly hormonal cycle, they thicken and bleed; however, unlike a period, this blood has no way to escape the body. This process leads to inflammation, severe pelvic pain, and the formation of scar tissue or adhesions that can cause internal organs to fuse together.

While the NHS reports that endometriosis affects approximately 1 in 10 women in the UK, it remains notoriously difficult to diagnose, often taking years of symptomatic suffering.

What patients say

Verified reviews from patients who sought Mr Connell's care for endometriosis and related conditions.

"Dr Connell was brilliant from the initial consultation all the way through to the post surgery conversation. He made sure I was fully prepared and understood what was happening. I'd spent 10 years asking my GP for investigation into my pain and finally I have an endometriosis diagnosis and the appropriate treatment. I would recommend anyone with a gynaecological issue to see him. Thank you!"
