Laparoscopy (Keyhole Surgery)
Minimally invasive surgery using a small camera and instruments through tiny incisions, used to diagnose and treat a wide range of gynaecological problems.

What is a laparoscopy?
A laparoscopy is a type of keyhole surgery in which a thin telescope with a camera (a laparoscope) is passed through a small incision near the belly button. It allows the surgeon to look directly at the pelvic organs without needing a large open cut.
In gynaecology, laparoscopy is used both to diagnose and to treat conditions including endometriosis, ovarian cysts, fibroids, adhesions, ectopic pregnancy, pelvic pain and tubal problems. Operative laparoscopy can also be used for hysterectomy and certain prolapse repairs.
Most patients go home the same day or the day after surgery and recover more quickly than after open surgery, with smaller scars and typically less postoperative pain.
When clinically appropriate, keyhole surgery is the preferred approach because it offers shorter recovery, smaller scars and a quicker return to normal activity.

Ovarian cysts
Removal of persistent, painful or suspicious cysts while preserving healthy ovarian tissue whenever possible.
Pelvic pain & adhesions
Investigation of chronic pelvic pain and division of scar tissue from previous surgery or infection.
Fibroids & tubal disease
Selected fibroid removal, sterilisation, and assessment or treatment of fallopian tube problems.
